Photo of the day – Bogotá, Colombia

new venture! a photo post every day.

This weekend we were chatting up Colombia with friends of ours, which brought back memories of heat, dancing, lush green mountains, and outgoing locals.  Here’s a snapshot from the capital city, Bogotá:

In Colombia, you don’t have to have your own cellphone to enjoy the convenience of mobile communications.  Simply find a person advertising “minuto” anywhere around town, pay them to borrow their phone, and voila – insta-cell.  These salespeople have multiple phones chained either to their person or to the post. It’s pretty cheap and often much more affordable than having a monthly plan.  On a funny side note, at one point I came across a website comparing the cost of living in various cities around the US to Colombia.  They had stats comparing housing, gas, basic groceries, etc. But for the row on “price of cell phone by the minute” there was no data for the US – it’s one area of enterprise where they’ve got us beat.
