Photo of the day: Medellín freestyle

Monday, July 23, 2012

Medellín, Colombia was a total surprise: clean, beautiful, fun and friendly.  Perched at 5,000 ft above sea level, it’s got a year-round perfect climate (between 60-80F) and is surrounded by lush green mountains.  Medellín is also the hometown of Fernando Botero, one of my favorite artists, and his sculptures confront you with their bulging roundness throughout the city.

Two girls were holding their own among a pack of male skaters at this park – one of many lovely public spaces in the city.

LOVE Botero. So fun. My favorite Botero statue is his enormous black cat. One of them lives at our favorite London hotel, The Soho.
I remember you saying how much you guys liked Columbia. 🙂
    Fun action shot!
